Melanie Wahlberg, CS
The Blessing of Giving Freely
Christmas Day at 4pm GMT

This free half hour talk on Christian Science by Melanie Wahlberg, CS is brought to you by various Christian Science churches and societies from across the UK. When we feel overwhelmed by life’s problems, we may want to try to get more from the world. But when we do the opposite–give more of ourselves or focus on the God-given qualities we already have to express or contribute, we find that we end up not lacking anything. Really, we gain the unexpected good of joy, health, and strength that move our lives and the world forward.

A lasting healing solution to hopelessness

Alison Hughes, CS
Sunday 21st January 2024, 3pm

This free talk will focus on universal healing precepts found in the Bible, especially in Christ Jesus’ life and teachings, showing how they are available for anyone to understand and experience through the lens of Christian Science.

“We hear everywhere of the challenges of today: civil chaos, mental health issues, climate or pandemic-related social and economic worries and more. Some are asking, ‘is there a permanent solution?’ As far back as Biblical times and during Jesus’ ministry, practical, transformative prayer brought healing. This lecture will share why it is realistic today to have a trusting expectation of good.”

Sharing examples of healing from her own life and professional practice of Christian Science, Alison will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific, meaning that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves.

You are warmly invited to the Christian Science church here in Watford. Use our Reading Room for Bible study, to read the works of Mary Baker Eddy the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, to find spiritual resources that meet your need, and to be inspired by the many testimonies of healing. Come to our services, Sunday school, meetings and free talks. We would love to see you.

He sent his word
and healed them…

Sunday Service

Sunday Service

Our church service is held every Sunday at 10.30 am for one hour and online. We sing hymns, pray and listen to inspiring selections from the Bible and related passages from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Heath, with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. It is presented by two lay Readers. The service is open to all and is designed to deliver an uplifting and healing message which can be heard in any of the Christian Science churches around the world. Come to a Sunday Service to learn more about spirituality.

Wednesday Meeting

We meet every Wednesday at 8 pm for about an hour and online to listen to readings, sing and share what we are learning in Christian Science, and how we are seeing God’s law of good blessing our daily lives. The opening readings are often chosen to address issues of public concern, and are followed by a period of sharing of healings, inspiration and quiet, prayerful, reflection.

All are welcome to join us in person or online.

“…a church designed to commemorate the words and works of our Master [Christ Jesus]
which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.”

Mary Baker Eddy

Sunday School

All children and young people up to the age of 20 are welcome. They learn about God’s love and Christ Jesus’ teachings in age-appropriate groups.

Learning is based on the Bible and includes the Ten Commandments, the Sermon on the Mount and stories from the lives of Biblical characters.

Older students frequently like to bring questions and discuss issues relating to their daily lives. Often referring to the weekly Bible Lesson set out in the Christian Science Quarterly, they find help, inspiration and spiritual solutions.

About Christian Science

What is Christian Science?

Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered and founded Christian Science, defined it as “the law of God, the law of good . . .” (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1). Christian Science is also the scientific system of divine healing and it explains how healings in the Bible took place. It is a day-by-day spiritual discovery centred on God and love of one another.

“As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal life.”

Mary Baker Eddy

Mary Baker Eddy

Mary Baker Eddy (1821-1910), is the discoverer and founder of Christian Science who took her inspiration from the Bible. She is also widely recognised as a remarkable author, teacher, religious figure and founder of a Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

The author of this book, Mary Baker Eddy, intended it to be a sourcebook on practical spirituality for literally anyone. Science and Health outlines universal spiritual laws that when understood and demonstrated bring comfort and healing. First published in 1875, it continues as a best seller and as an enduring book on spirituality and healing. The last 100 pages of Science and Health contain accounts of healing brought about by reading this book.
